XIII.
A
PRAYER.
I
want
only
small
needs,
Like
happiness
and
heaven;
Within
my
money
these
could
be,
And
life
and
I
are
even.
But
since
the
last
has
both,
It
would
be
my
prayer
For
just
one
thing,
And
grace
would
give
both.
And
so,
I
prayed,
—
Great
Spirit,
give
me
A
heaven
not
as
big
as
yours,
But
big
enough
for
me.
A
smile
on
God's
face;
The
angels
stepped
back;
Old
saints
came
to
see,
And
showed
their
smiles,
too.
I
left
the
place
fast,
—
My
prayer
I
threw
away;
The
quiet
ages
took
it,
And
Judgment
smiled,
too,
That
one
so
honest
is
here
To
take
the
story
as
true
That
"What
you
ask,
Itself
be
given
you."
But
I,
now
wiser,
look
at
the
skies
With
a
careful
eye,
—
As
children,
tricked
for
the
first
time,
Think
all
are
tricksters.
