LIII.
RETURNING.
I
was
away
for
years,
Now
I
am
at
the
door,
I
do
not
open,
afraid
Of
a
face
I
do
not
know
Looking
at
me
And
asking
why
I
am
here.
My
reason,
—
the
life
I
left,
Is
it
still
here?
I
am
nervous,
I
look
at
the
windows;
The
silence
is
like
the
sea,
It
is
loud
in
my
ear.
I
laugh
a
hard
laugh
That
I
fear
a
door,
I
faced
danger
and
death,
But
never
feared
before.
I
put
my
hand
on
the
latch
With
care,
Afraid
the
door
will
open,
And
leave
me
there.
I
move
my
fingers
away
Carefully,
And
run
like
a
thief
From
the
house.
