X.
THE
SLEEPING
FLOWERS.
"Whose
are
the
little
beds,"
I
ask,
In
the
valleys?
Some
shake
heads,
others
smile,
And
no
one
says.
"Maybe
they
did
not
hear,"
I
say;
"I
will
ask
again.
Whose
are
the
beds,
the
tiny
beds
On
the
plain?"
"'T
is
daisy
in
the
short;
A
little
far
on,
Near
the
door
to
wake
first,
Little
flower.
"'T
is
iris,
sir,
and
aster,
Anemone
and
bell,
Flower
in
red,
And
daffodil."
Meanwhile
at
many
beds
Her
busy
foot
goes,
Humming
a
lullaby
That
rocks
a
child.
"Hush!
Flower
wakes!
—
The
crocus
opens
her
eyes,
Flower's
cheek
is
red,
—
She's
dreaming
of
woods."
Then,
turning
from
them,
"Their
bed-time,"
she
says;
"The
bees
will
wake
them
When
woods
are
red."
