XII.
THE
ORIOLE'S
SECRET.
To
hear
an
oriole
sing
Is
a
thing,
Or
a
divine.
It
is
not
of
the
bird
Who
sings
the
same,
unheard,
As
to
crowd.
The
ear
Hears
In
dull
or
fair.
So
if
it
be
song,
Or
if
it
be
none,
Is
inside;
The
"tune
is
in
the
tree,"
The
man
shows
me;
No,
sir!
In
you!
