XXIV.
EVENING.
The
cricket
sang,
And
set
the
sun,
And
people
finished,
one
by
one,
Their
work
for
the
day.
The
low
grass
full
of
dew,
The
twilight
stood
like
strangers
With
hat
in
hand,
polite
and
new,
To
stay
or
go.
A
great
feeling,
like
a
neighbor,
came,
—
A
wisdom
without
face
or
name,
A
peace,
like
worlds
at
home,
—
And
so
night
came.
