VI.
If
you
came
in
the
fall,
I'd
skip
the
summer
With
a
smile
and
a
wave,
Like
a
fly
in
the
house.
If
I
saw
you
in
a
year,
I'd
wrap
the
months
in
balls,
And
put
them
away,
Until
their
time
came.
If
only
long
years
waited,
I'd
count
them
on
my
hand,
Subtracting
till
my
fingers
fell
Into
a
far
land.
If
sure,
when
life
was
done,
That
yours
and
mine
would
be,
I'd
throw
it
away
like
a
rind,
And
taste
forever.
But
now,
not
knowing
how
long
Time's
uncertain
wing,
It
pushes
me,
like
a
bee,
That
won't
show
its
sting.
