XIII.
A
PRAYER.
I
wanted
just
simple
things,
Like
peace
and
heaven;
I
thought
I
could
have
them
And
stay
balanced.
But
since
both
were
in
one,
It
was
enough
for
my
prayer
To
ask
for
one,
And
get
both.
So
I
prayed,
—
Great
Spirit,
give
me
A
heaven
not
as
big
as
yours,
But
big
enough
for
me.
A
smile
came
to
God's
face;
The
angels
stepped
back;
The
saints
came
to
see
me,
And
they
smiled,
too.
I
left
quickly,
—
I
threw
my
prayer
away;
The
quiet
ages
picked
it
up,
And
even
Judgment
smiled,
That
someone
was
honest
To
believe
the
tale
That
"Whatever
you
ask,
You
will
get."
But
I,
now
wiser,
look
at
the
sky
With
doubt,
—
Like
children,
tricked
once,
Think
all
are
tricksters.
