XXIV.
TOO
MUCH.
I
should
have
been
too
happy,
I
see,
Too
lifted
for
the
small
life
I
lived
before;
My
small
world
would
have
been
small
Compared
to
this
new
one,
And
the
old
times
behind.
I
should
have
been
too
saved,
I
see,
Too
rescued;
fear
too
small
for
me
To
say
the
prayer
I
knew
so
well
yesterday,
—
That
burning
one,
"Why
me?"
Said
easily
here.
Earth
would
have
been
too
much,
I
see,
And
heaven
not
enough
for
me;
I
should
have
had
the
joy
Without
the
fear
to
explain,
—
The
palm
without
the
cross;
So,
Saviour,
crucify.
Defeat
makes
victory
sweeter,
they
say;
The
hard
times
in
the
garden
Make
the
shore
beyond
better.
It's
the
poor
who
best
know
a
feast;
It's
thirst
that
makes
wine
sweet,
—
Faith
struggles
to
understand.
