XLVIII.
FRINGED
GENTIAN.
God
made
a
small
gentian
flower;
It
wanted
to
be
a
rose
But
could
not,
and
summer
laughed.
Then
before
the
snow
came
A
purple
flower
appeared
That
amazed
the
whole
hill;
Summer
was
quiet
then,
And
no
one
laughed
anymore.
The
frost
was
its
friend;
The
purple
flower
did
not
come
Until
the
cold
called
it.
Creator!
can
I
bloom
now?
