Colección 8, Poema 7
VII.
I
read
my
sentence
slowly,
Looked
at
it
with
my
eyes,
To
see
I
made
no
mistake
In
its
hardest
part,
—
The
date,
and
way
of
the
shame;
And
then
the
kind
words
That
"God
have
mercy"
on
the
soul
The
jury
gave
him.
I
made
my
soul
ready
For
her
hardest
time,
So
at
the
end
it
would
not
be
A
new
pain,
But
she
and
Death,
friends,
Meet
calmly
as
friends,
Say
hello
and
pass
without
a
word
—
And
there
it
ends.
