Colección 9, Poema 23
XXVI.
The
farthest
thunder
I
ever
heard
Was
closer
than
the
sky,
And
it
still
rumbles,
even
though
Hot
days
have
passed
by.
The
lightning
that
came
before
Struck
only
me,
not
others,
But
I
would
keep
that
bolt
Over
all
other
things.
Oxygen
debts
can
be
repaid
By
the
chemist,
they
say,
But
we
cannot
repay
Our
debt
to
electricity.
It
makes
our
homes
bright
And
lights
up
our
days,
Every
loud
noise
is
just
A
part
of
that
bright
light.
The
thought
is
quiet
like
snow,
A
crash
without
a
sound;
How
life
echoes
around
us,
Its
meaning
is
found!
My
life
felt
cold
and
hard.
I
tried
to
make
things
grow.
Late,
my
small
rocky
land
Gave
me
grapes
and
corn.
Hard
soil,
if
worked
a
lot,
Will
give
something
back.
Palm
seeds
in
hot
sun
Grow
even
in
sand.
