XIV.
A
WELL.
What
mystery
surrounds
a
well!
The
water
lives
so
far,
Like
a
neighbor
from
another
world
Living
in
a
jar.
The
grass
does
not
seem
afraid;
I
often
wonder
why
He
can
stand
so
close
and
look
so
bold
At
what
scares
me.
Related
somehow
they
may
be,
—
The
sedge
stands
by
the
sea,
Where
he
has
no
floor,
yet
of
fear
No
sign
does
he
show.
But
nature
is
still
a
stranger;
The
ones
who
speak
of
her
most
Have
never
passed
her
haunted
house,
Nor
explained
her
ghost.
To
pity
those
who
do
not
know
her
Is
helped
by
the
regret
That
those
who
know
her,
know
her
less
The
closer
they
get.
