XVII.
THE
WIFE.
She
rose
to
his
need,
left
behind
The
playthings
of
her
life
To
take
the
honorable
work
Of
woman
and
of
wife.
If
she
missed
anything
in
her
new
day
Of
greatness,
or
awe,
Or
first
excitement,
or
the
shine
In
using
wore
away,
It
lay
unspoken,
as
the
sea
Holds
pearl
and
weed,
But
only
to
itself
is
known
The
depths
they
stay.
