XI.
SUMMER
SHOWER.
A
drop
fell
on
the
apple
tree,
Another
on
the
roof;
A
few
kissed
the
eaves,
And
made
the
gables
laugh.
Some
went
to
help
the
brook,
That
went
to
help
the
sea.
I
thought,
if
they
were
pearls,
What
necklaces
could
be!
The
dust
settled
on
the
roads,
The
birds
sang
with
glee;
The
sun
threw
his
hat
away,
The
orchards
shone
brightly.
The
breezes
brought
sad
tunes,
And
bathed
them
in
joy;
The
East
raised
a
single
flag,
And
ended
the
day.
