XIII.
A
PRAYER.
I
meant
to
have
simple
needs,
Like
contentment,
and
heaven;
Within
my
means
these
could
fit,
And
life
and
I
be
even.
But
since
the
last
included
both,
It
would
meet
my
prayer
If
just
one
could
be
enough,
And
grace
would
grant
the
pair.
And
so,
I
prayed
like
this—
Great
Spirit,
give
to
me
A
heaven
not
as
large
as
yours,
But
big
enough
for
me.
A
smile
spread
on
Jehovah's
face;
The
cherubim
left;
Grave
saints
came
to
see
me,
And
showed
their
smiles,
too.
I
left
the
place
quickly—
My
prayer
I
threw
away;
The
quiet
ages
picked
it
up,
And
Judgment
smiled,
too,
That
one
so
honest
would
exist
As
to
believe
the
tale
That
"Whatsoever
you
shall
ask,
Itself
be
given
you."
But
I,
grown
wiser,
look
at
the
skies
With
a
suspicious
air—
As
children,
tricked
for
the
first
time,
Think
all
are
tricksters.
