III.
NATURE.
I.
MOTHER
NATURE.
Nature,
the
kindest
mother,
Patient
with
every
child,
The
weakest
or
the
wildest,
Her
guidance
always
mild.
In
the
woods
and
on
the
hill
Travelers
hear
her
voice,
Calming
the
lively
squirrel
Or
the
eager
bird's
choice.
Her
talk
is
so
lovely
On
a
summer
afternoon,
Her
home
and
her
family;
And
when
the
sun
goes
down
Her
voice
in
the
aisles
Encourages
small
prayers
From
the
tiniest
cricket,
The
smallest
flower
there.
When
all
the
children
sleep
She
turns
away
for
a
while
To
light
her
lamps
in
the
sky;
Then,
bending
down
with
a
smile
With
endless
love
and
care,
Her
golden
finger
on
her
lip,
She
asks
for
silence
everywhere.
