XIV.
A
WELL.
What
mystery
surrounds
a
well!
The
water
lives
so
deep,
Like
a
neighbor
from
another
world
Residing
in
a
jar.
The
grass
does
not
appear
afraid;
I
often
wonder
how
It
stands
so
close
and
looks
so
brave
At
what
is
dread
to
me.
Related
somehow
they
might
be,
—
The
sedge
stands
by
the
sea,
Where
it
is
bottomless,
yet
of
fear
No
sign
does
it
show.
But
nature
is
a
stranger
still;
The
ones
who
cite
her
most
Have
never
passed
her
haunted
house,
Nor
simplified
her
ghost.
To
pity
those
who
know
her
not
Is
helped
by
the
regret
That
those
who
know
her,
know
her
less
The
closer
they
get.
