XI.
SUMMER
SHOWER.
A
drop
fell
on
the
apple
tree,
Another
on
the
roof;
A
few
kissed
the
eaves,
And
made
the
gables
laugh.
Some
went
to
help
the
brook,
That
went
to
help
the
sea.
I
wondered,
Were
they
pearls,
What
necklaces
could
be!
The
dust
settled
on
raised
roads,
The
birds
sang
more
joyfully;
The
sunshine
threw
his
hat
away,
The
orchards
sparkled.
The
breezes
brought
sad
lutes,
And
bathed
them
in
joy;
The
East
raised
a
single
flag,
And
signed
the
celebration
away.
