IV.
DAY'S
PARLOR.
The
day
came
slowly,
till
five
o'clock,
Then
leapt
above
the
hills
Like
delayed
rubies,
or
the
light
A
sudden
musket
spills.
The
purple
could
not
hold
the
east,
The
sunrise
shook
from
fold,
Like
layers
of
topaz,
packed
a
night,
The
lady
just
unrolled.
The
happy
winds
took
their
tambourines;
The
birds,
in
obedient
rows,
Arranged
themselves
around
their
prince
(The
wind
is
prince
of
those).
The
orchard
sparkled
like
a
jewel,
—
How
grand
it
was,
to
stay
A
guest
in
this
magnificent
place,
The
parlor
of
the
day!
