Colección 8, Poema 29
XXIX.
GHOSTS.
One
need
not
be
a
room
to
be
haunted,
One
need
not
be
a
house;
The
mind
has
corridors
surpassing
Physical
place.
Far
safer,
of
a
midnight
meeting
An
external
ghost,
Than
an
internal
confrontation
With
that
whiter
host.
Far
safer
through
an
Abbey
gallop,
The
stones
in
chase,
Than,
moonless,
one's
own
self
encounter
In
a
lonely
place.
Ourself,
hidden
behind
ourself,
Should
startle
most;
An
assassin,
hidden
in
our
room,
Is
horror's
least.
The
careful
carries
a
revolver,
He
bolts
the
door,
Overlooking
a
greater
spectre
More
near.
