IX.
Drowning
is
not
as
pitiful
As
the
attempt
to
rise.
Three
times,
it's
said,
a
sinking
man
Comes
up
to
face
the
skies,
And
then
descends
forever
To
that
dreaded
place
Where
hope
and
he
part
ways,
—
For
he
is
held
by
God.
The
Maker's
kind
face,
Though
good
to
see,
Is
avoided,
we
must
admit,
Like
an
adversity.
