IV.
ROUGE
GAGNE.
It's
such
joy!
It's
such
joy!
If
I
fail,
what
poverty
awaits!
Yet,
as
poor
as
I
am,
I've
risked
everything
on
a
chance;
I've
won!
Yes!
I
hesitated
On
the
verge
of
victory!
Life
is
merely
life,
and
death
merely
death!
Bliss
is
merely
bliss,
and
breath
merely
breath!
And
if
I
fail,
At
least
knowing
the
worst
is
sweet.
Defeat
means
only
defeat,
Nothing
more
dreadful
can
prevail!
And
if
I
succeed,
—
oh,
cannon
at
sea,
Oh,
bells
in
the
steeples,
At
first,
ring
it
slowly!
For
heaven
is
a
different
thing
Imagined,
and
suddenly
awakened
in,
And
might
overwhelm
me
so!
