XII.
High
above
the
earth
I
heard
a
bird;
He
trod
upon
the
trees
As
if
they
were
mere
trifles,
And
then
he
caught
a
breeze,
And
gently
settled
Upon
a
gust
of
wind
Which
in
a
disturbance
Nature
had
left
behind.
A
joyous
fellow
I
gathered
from
his
song,
Which
both
of
blessing
And
jest
partook,
Without
apparent
burden,
I
learned,
in
leafy
wood
He
was
the
devoted
father
Of
a
dependent
brood;
And
this
unexpected
flight
His
remedy
for
care,
—
A
contrast
to
our
respites.
How
different
we
are!
