XI.
SUMMER
SHOWER.
A
drop
fell
on
the
apple
tree,
Another
on
the
roof;
A
half
a
dozen
kissed
the
eaves,
And
made
the
gables
laugh.
A
few
went
to
aid
the
brook,
That
went
to
help
the
sea.
I
wondered,
if
they
were
pearls,
What
necklaces
could
be!
The
dust
replaced
on
lifted
roads,
The
birds
sang
more
joyfully;
The
sunshine
tossed
his
hat
aside,
The
orchards
gleamed
with
jewels.
The
breezes
brought
forlorn
lutes,
And
bathed
them
in
delight;
The
East
unfurled
a
single
flag,
And
signed
the
feast
away.
