XXXIX.
Good
night!
Who
extinguished
the
candle?
A
jealous
breeze,
no
doubt.
Ah!
friend,
you
scarcely
knew
How
long
at
that
heavenly
wick
The
angels
had
toiled
diligently;
Now
extinguished,
just
for
you!
It
might
have
been
the
lighthouse
glow
Some
sailor,
rowing
in
the
dark,
Had
fervently
wished
to
see!
It
might
have
been
the
fading
lamp
That
guided
the
drummer
from
the
camp
To
a
purer
reveille!
