XI.
THE
LOVERS.
The
rose
danced
on
her
cheek,
Her
bodice
rose
and
fell,
Her
pretty
speech,
like
drunken
men,
Staggered
pitifully.
Her
fingers
fumbled
at
her
work,
—
Her
needle
would
not
go;
What
troubled
such
a
clever
maid
Puzzled
me
to
know,
Until
opposite
I
saw
a
cheek
That
bore
another
rose;
Just
opposite,
another
speech
That
staggered
like
the
drunkard;
A
vest
that,
like
the
bodice,
danced
To
the
eternal
tune,
—
Until
those
two
troubled
little
clocks
Ticked
softly
into
one.
