IV.
THE
CONTRACT.
I
gave
myself
to
him,
And
took
him
in
return.
The
solemn
contract
of
a
life
Was
affirmed
this
way.
The
wealth
might
disappoint,
I
might
prove
poorer
Than
this
great
buyer
suspects,
The
daily
ownership
of
Love
Might
depreciate
the
vision;
But,
until
the
merchant
buys,
Still,
in
the
isles
of
spice,
The
subtle
cargoes
lie.
At
least,
it's
a
mutual
risk,
—
Some
found
it
mutual
gain;
Sweet
debt
of
Life,
—
each
night
to
owe,
Insolvent,
every
noon.
