III.
NATURE.
I.
MOTHER
NATURE.
Nature,
the
most
tender
of
mothers,
Patient
with
every
child,
Whether
weak
or
rebellious,
Her
guidance
is
always
mild.
In
forests
and
on
hills,
Travelers
hear
her
call,
Taming
the
restless
squirrel
Or
the
impulsive
bird's
flight.
Her
dialogue
is
enchanting,
A
summer
afternoon's
grace,
Her
home,
her
gathering;
And
as
the
sun
sets,
Her
voice
among
the
trees
Encourages
the
timid
prayer
Of
the
tiniest
cricket,
The
most
humble
flower.
When
all
her
children
sleep,
She
turns
away
briefly
To
light
her
celestial
lamps;
Then,
descending
from
the
sky,
With
boundless
affection
And
infinite
care,
Her
golden
finger
to
her
lips,
She
commands
silence
everywhere.
