Las aventuras de Sherlock Holmes
The Adventure of the Speckled Band
Capítulo 8, Página 30
Holmes
had
a
thin
cane.
He
put
it
on
the
bed.
He
also
had
matches
and
a
candle.
Then
he
turned
off
the
lamp,
and
it
was
dark.
I
will
not
forget
that
night.
It
was
silent,
but
I
knew
Holmes
was
near.
We
waited
in
the
dark.
We
heard
a
night-bird
and
a
cheetah
near
the
window.
The
clock
rang
every
fifteen
minutes.
Time
passed
slowly.
It
was
midnight,
then
one,
then
two,
then
three.
We
waited
in
silence.
Suddenly,
I
saw
a
light
near
the
ventilator.
It
went
away
fast.
Then
I
smelled
burning
oil
and
hot
metal.
Someone
in
the
next
room
lit
a
lantern.
I
heard
a
small
noise,
then
it
was
quiet
again.
The
smell
got
stronger.
I
sat
and
listened
for
a
long
time.
Then
I
heard
a
new
sound.
It
was
soft,
like
steam
from
a
kettle.
Holmes
jumped
from
the
bed.
He
lit
a
match
and
hit
the
bell-pull
with
his
cane.
"Do
you
see
it,
Watson?"
he
shouted.
"Do
you
see
it?"
I
saw
nothing.
When
Holmes
lit
the
match,
I
heard
a
whistle.
The
light
hurt
my
eyes,
so
I
could
not
see
what
Holmes
hit.
His
face
was
very
pale.
He
looked
scared
and
angry.
He
stopped
hitting
and
looked
at
the
ventilator.
Then
we
heard
a
loud,
scary
scream.
It
was
full
of
pain
and
fear.
People
in
the
village
heard
it
too.
It
made
us
feel
cold.
I
looked
at
Holmes,
and
he
looked
at
me,
until
the
sound
stopped.
"What
does
it
mean?"
I
asked.
"It
means
it
is
over,"
Holmes
said.
"Maybe
it
is
for
the
best.
Take
your
gun,
and
we
will
go
to
Dr.
Roylott's
room."
