Las aventuras de Sherlock Holmes
The Red-Headed League
Capítulo 2, Página 8
"I
never
hope
to
see
such
a
sight
again,
Mr.
Holmes.
From
all
directions,
every
man
with
any
red
hair
came
to
the
city
to
answer
the
ad.
Fleet
Street
was
full
of
red-headed
people,
and
Pope’s
Court
looked
like
an
orange
stand.
I
didn't
think
there
were
so
many
in
the
whole
country.
They
had
every
shade
of
red—straw,
lemon,
orange,
brick,
Irish-setter,
liver,
clay;
but,
as
Spaulding
said,
not
many
had
the
real
bright
red.
When
I
saw
how
many
were
waiting,
I
wanted
to
give
up,
but
Spaulding
didn't
let
me.
I
don't
know
how
he
did
it,
but
he
pushed
and
pulled
until
he
got
me
through
the
crowd
and
up
to
the
office
steps.
There
was
a
line
on
the
stairs,
some
going
up
with
hope,
and
some
coming
back
sad.
But
we
squeezed
in
and
soon
found
ourselves
in
the
office."
"Your
experience
is
very
entertaining,"
said
Holmes
as
his
client
paused
and
took
a
pinch
of
snuff.
"Please
continue
your
interesting
story."
"There
was
nothing
in
the
office
but
two
wooden
chairs
and
a
table.
Behind
it
sat
a
small
man
with
even
redder
hair
than
mine.
He
said
a
few
words
to
each
person
and
always
found
some
fault
to
disqualify
them.
Getting
a
job
wasn't
easy.
But
when
it
was
our
turn,
the
little
man
was
nicer
to
me
than
to
the
others.
He
closed
the
door
as
we
entered
to
speak
with
us
privately."
"'This
is
Mr.
Jabez
Wilson,'
said
my
assistant,
'and
he
wants
to
fill
a
job
in
the
League.'"
"'He
is
perfect
for
it,'
the
man
answered.
'He
has
everything
needed.
I
haven't
seen
anything
so
fine.'
He
stepped
back,
tilted
his
head,
and
looked
at
my
hair
until
I
felt
shy.
Then
he
suddenly
moved
forward,
shook
my
hand,
and
congratulated
me
warmly
on
my
success."
"‘It
would
be
unfair
to
wait,’
he
said.
‘But
you
will
forgive
me
for
being
careful.’
Then
he
pulled
my
hair
hard
until
I
shouted.
‘Your
eyes
have
tears,’
he
said,
letting
go.
‘Everything
is
fine.
But
we
must
be
careful
because
we
have
been
tricked
before
by
wigs
and
paint.
I
could
tell
you
stories
that
would
shock
you.’
He
went
to
the
window
and
shouted
that
the
job
was
taken.
People
sighed
and
left,
and
soon
only
my
red
hair
and
the
manager’s
were
there."
"‘My
name
is
Mr.
Duncan
Ross,’
he
said.
‘I
also
get
money
from
the
fund.
Are
you
married,
Mr.
Wilson?
Do
you
have
a
family?’"
"I
said
that
I
did
not."
