Las aventuras de Sherlock Holmes
The Adventure of the Blue Carbuncle
Capítulo 7, Página 24
Ryder
suddenly
fell
to
the
floor
and
grabbed
Holmes's
knees.
"Please,
have
mercy!"
he
shouted.
"Think
of
my
father!
My
mother!
It
would
break
their
hearts.
I
never
did
wrong
before!
I
never
will
again.
I
swear
it.
Please
don't
take
it
to
court!"
"Get
back
into
your
chair!"
said
Holmes
sternly.
"It
is
easy
to
beg
now,
but
you
didn't
care
about
poor
Horner,
who
knew
nothing."
"I
will
leave,
Mr.
Holmes.
I
will
leave
the
country.
Then
the
charge
against
him
will
fail."
"We
will
talk
about
that.
Now
tell
us
how
the
stone
got
into
the
goose,
and
how
the
goose
went
to
market.
Tell
us
the
truth;
it
is
your
only
hope."
Ryder
licked
his
dry
lips.
"I
will
tell
you
what
happened,
sir,"
he
said.
"After
Horner
was
arrested,
I
thought
I
should
take
the
stone
away
quickly.
I
didn't
know
when
the
police
might
search
me
or
my
room.
There
was
no
safe
place
at
the
hotel.
I
went
out
like
I
had
a
job
to
do,
and
I
went
to
my
sister’s
house.
She
married
a
man
named
Oakshott
and
lived
on
Brixton
Road.
She
raised
birds
for
the
market.
On
the
way,
every
man
seemed
like
a
policeman.
Even
though
it
was
cold,
I
was
sweating
by
the
time
I
got
to
Brixton
Road.
My
sister
asked
why
I
looked
so
pale,
and
I
said
I
was
upset
by
the
jewel
robbery.
Then
I
went
to
the
backyard,
smoked
a
pipe,
and
thought
about
what
to
do.
"I
had
a
friend
named
Maudsley,
who
had
been
in
prison.
He
once
talked
to
me
about
how
thieves
get
rid
of
stolen
things.
I
knew
he
would
help
me
because
I
knew
some
things
about
him.
So
I
decided
to
go
to
Kilburn,
where
he
lived,
and
ask
for
his
help.
He
would
show
me
how
to
sell
the
stone.
But
how
could
I
get
there
safely?
I
was
scared
of
being
caught
and
searched,
with
the
stone
in
my
pocket.
I
leaned
against
the
wall
and
looked
at
the
geese
around
my
feet.
Then
I
had
an
idea
to
beat
any
detective."
"My
sister
said
I
could
have
one
of
her
geese
for
Christmas,
and
she
always
kept
her
promises.
I
would
take
my
goose
now
and
hide
the
stone
in
it
to
take
to
Kilburn.
There
was
a
small
shed
in
the
yard.
I
took
one
of
the
birds—a
big
white
one
with
a
barred
tail.
I
caught
it,
opened
its
beak,
and
pushed
the
stone
down
its
throat.
The
bird
swallowed
it,
and
I
felt
the
stone
go
down.
But
the
bird
struggled,
and
my
sister
came
out
to
see
what
was
happening.
As
I
turned
to
speak
to
her,
the
bird
got
away
and
ran
to
the
others."
"'What
were
you
doing
with
that
bird,
Jem?'
she
asked."
