Las aventuras de Sherlock Holmes
The Adventure of the Beryl Coronet
Capítulo 11, Página 14
"It's
our
job
to
find
out,"
replied
Holmes.
"So,
if
you
please,
Mr.
Holder,
let's
go
to
Streatham
together
and
spend
an
hour
looking
more
closely
at
the
details."
Holmes
insisted
I
join
them,
and
I
was
eager
to
do
so.
The
story
had
stirred
my
curiosity
and
sympathy.
I
believed
the
banker's
son
was
guilty,
just
like
his
father
did.
But
I
trusted
Holmes'
judgment
and
thought
there
was
hope
as
long
as
he
wasn't
satisfied
with
the
explanation.
Holmes
spoke
little
on
the
way
to
the
suburb,
lost
in
thought,
with
his
hat
pulled
low.
Our
client
seemed
hopeful
again
and
chatted
with
me
about
his
business.
A
short
train
ride
and
a
walk
brought
us
to
Fairbank,
the
financier's
modest
home.
Fairbank
was
a
large
square
house
made
of
white
stone,
set
back
from
the
road.
A
driveway
with
a
snowy
lawn
led
to
two
big
iron
gates.
On
the
right
was
a
small
wooded
area
with
a
path
to
the
kitchen
door,
used
by
tradesmen.
On
the
left
was
a
lane
to
the
stables,
a
public
but
rarely
used
path.
Holmes
left
us
at
the
door
and
walked
around
the
house,
down
the
tradesmen's
path,
and
through
the
garden
to
the
stable
lane.
He
took
so
long
that
Mr.
Holder
and
I
went
into
the
dining
room
to
wait
by
the
fire.
We
sat
in
silence
until
a
young
lady
entered.
She
was
tall,
slim,
with
dark
hair
and
eyes,
and
very
pale
skin.
Her
lips
were
colorless,
and
her
eyes
showed
she
had
been
crying.
She
moved
silently,
showing
more
grief
than
the
banker
did
earlier.
She
seemed
strong
and
controlled.
Ignoring
me,
she
went
to
her
uncle
and
gently
touched
his
head.
"Have
you
ordered
Arthur
to
be
released,
dad?"
she
asked.
"No,
my
girl,
we
must
get
to
the
bottom
of
this."
"But
I'm
sure
he's
innocent.
You
know
how
women
feel
things.
I
know
he
did
nothing
wrong,
and
you'll
regret
being
so
harsh."
"Why
is
he
silent
if
he's
innocent?"
"Who
knows?
Maybe
he's
too
angry
that
you
suspect
him."
