Las aventuras de Sherlock Holmes
The Red-Headed League
Capítulo 2, Página 8
"I've
never
seen
anything
like
it,
Mr.
Holmes.
Men
with
red
hair
came
from
all
over
the
city
to
answer
the
ad.
Fleet
Street
was
full
of
red-headed
people,
and
Pope's
Court
looked
like
an
orange
cart.
I
didn't
think
there
were
so
many
in
the
country.
Every
shade
was
there—straw,
lemon,
orange,
brick,
but
not
many
with
the
bright
flame
color.
When
I
saw
how
many
were
waiting,
I
wanted
to
give
up,
but
Spaulding
insisted.
I
don't
know
how
he
did
it,
but
he
pushed
through
the
crowd
and
got
me
to
the
office
steps.
There
were
people
going
up
in
hope
and
coming
down
disappointed,
but
we
squeezed
in
and
soon
found
ourselves
in
the
office."
"Your
story
is
quite
entertaining,"
remarked
Holmes
as
his
client
paused
to
take
a
pinch
of
snuff.
"Please
continue
your
interesting
account."
"The
office
had
only
a
couple
of
wooden
chairs
and
a
table.
A
small
man
with
even
redder
hair
than
mine
sat
behind
it.
He
spoke
to
each
candidate
and
found
some
fault
to
disqualify
them.
Getting
a
vacancy
wasn't
easy.
However,
when
it
was
our
turn,
the
man
was
much
nicer
to
me
than
to
the
others.
He
closed
the
door
for
a
private
word
with
us."
"'This
is
Mr.
Jabez
Wilson,'
said
my
assistant,
'and
he
wants
to
fill
a
vacancy
in
the
League.'"
"'And
he
is
perfect
for
it,'
the
man
replied.
'He
has
everything
needed.
I
can't
remember
seeing
anything
so
fine.'
He
stepped
back,
looked
at
my
hair,
and
made
me
feel
shy.
Then
he
suddenly
shook
my
hand
and
congratulated
me
warmly
on
my
success."
"‘It
would
be
wrong
to
hesitate,’
he
said.
‘You
will
understand
why
I
need
to
take
a
simple
precaution.’
He
grabbed
my
hair
with
both
hands
and
pulled
until
I
shouted
from
the
pain.
‘Your
eyes
are
watery,’
he
said,
letting
go.
‘Everything
seems
right.
But
we
must
be
careful
because
we
have
been
fooled
by
wigs
and
once
by
paint.
I
could
tell
you
stories
about
cobbler’s
wax
that
would
disgust
you.’
He
went
to
the
window
and
shouted
that
the
job
was
taken.
A
groan
came
from
below,
and
people
left
in
different
directions
until
only
my
red
hair
and
the
manager’s
were
left."
"‘My
name,’
he
said,
‘is
Mr.
Duncan
Ross,
and
I
am
also
one
of
the
people
supported
by
the
fund
left
by
our
generous
benefactor.
Are
you
married,
Mr.
Wilson?
Do
you
have
a
family?’"
"I
replied
that
I
did
not."
