Las aventuras de Sherlock Holmes
A Case of Identity
Capítulo 3, Página 14
"No,
no,
the
mystery!"
I
exclaimed.
"Oh,
that!
I
was
thinking
about
the
salt
I
was
working
on.
There
was
never
any
mystery
in
the
matter,
though,
as
I
said
yesterday,
some
details
are
interesting.
The
only
problem
is
there's
no
law,
I
fear,
that
can
catch
the
scoundrel."
"Who
was
he,
then,
and
why
did
he
leave
Miss
Sutherland?"
I
had
just
asked
the
question,
and
Holmes
hadn't
replied
yet,
when
we
heard
heavy
footsteps
in
the
hallway
and
a
knock
at
the
door.
"This
is
the
girl's
stepfather,
Mr.
James
Windibank,"
said
Holmes.
"He
wrote
to
say
he'd
be
here
at
six.
Come
in!"
A
sturdy,
middle-sized
man,
around
thirty
years
old,
entered.
He
was
clean-shaven,
had
sallow
skin,
a
smooth
manner,
and
sharp
grey
eyes.
He
glanced
at
us,
placed
his
shiny
top
hat
on
the
sideboard,
and
with
a
slight
bow,
sat
in
the
nearest
chair.
"Good
evening,
Mr.
James
Windibank,"
said
Holmes.
"I
believe
this
typewritten
letter
is
from
you,
arranging
to
meet
me
at
six
o'clock?"
"Yes,
sir.
I'm
sorry
I'm
a
bit
late,
but
I'm
not
my
own
master,
you
know.
I'm
sorry
Miss
Sutherland
troubled
you
with
this
matter.
I
think
it's
better
not
to
discuss
family
issues
in
public.
It
was
against
my
wishes
that
she
came,
but
she's
very
excitable
and
not
easily
controlled
once
she
decides
on
something.
I
didn't
mind
you
so
much,
as
you're
not
with
the
official
police,
but
it's
unpleasant
to
have
family
matters
discussed.
Besides,
it's
a
waste
of
money,
as
how
could
you
possibly
find
this
Hosmer
Angel?"
