Las aventuras de Sherlock Holmes
The Boscombe Valley Mystery
Capítulo 4, Página 14
"Let's
do
it
then.
Watson,
you
might
find
it
a
bit
slow,
but
I'll
only
be
gone
a
couple
of
hours."
I
walked
with
them
to
the
station
and
then
strolled
through
the
small
town.
Eventually,
I
returned
to
the
hotel,
lay
on
the
sofa,
and
tried
to
read
a
novel.
But
the
story
seemed
so
simple
compared
to
the
mystery
we
were
trying
to
solve.
My
mind
kept
drifting
back
to
the
day's
events.
If
the
young
man's
story
was
true,
what
terrible
event
happened
between
him
leaving
his
father
and
running
back
after
hearing
screams?
It
was
something
deadly.
Could
the
injuries
reveal
anything
to
my
medical
mind?
I
called
for
the
local
paper,
which
had
a
detailed
report
of
the
inquest.
The
doctor
said
the
back
of
the
left
side
of
the
skull
was
shattered
by
a
heavy
blow.
I
touched
the
spot
on
my
own
head.
The
blow
was
from
behind,
which
helped
the
accused
a
bit
since
they
were
seen
arguing
face
to
face.
But
the
father
could
have
turned
his
back
before
being
hit.
It
was
worth
mentioning
to
Holmes.
Then
there
was
the
strange
mention
of
a
rat.
What
did
it
mean?
It
wasn't
likely
delirium;
a
sudden
blow
doesn't
cause
that.
It
was
probably
an
attempt
to
explain
his
fate.
But
what
could
it
mean?
I
thought
hard
for
an
explanation.
Then
there
was
the
grey
cloth
young
McCarthy
saw.
If
true,
the
murderer
dropped
part
of
his
clothing,
maybe
an
overcoat,
and
returned
to
get
it
while
the
son
was
nearby.
It
was
a
web
of
mysteries
and
unlikely
events!
I
understood
Lestrade's
opinion,
but
I
had
faith
in
Holmes.
Every
new
fact
seemed
to
support
young
McCarthy's
innocence.
Holmes
returned
late.
He
was
alone
because
Lestrade
stayed
in
town.
"The
weather
is
still
good,"
he
said,
sitting
down.
"It's
important
it
doesn't
rain
before
we
check
the
area.
We
need
to
be
sharp
for
this
work,
and
I
didn't
want
to
do
it
tired
from
travel.
I've
seen
young
McCarthy."
"And
what
did
you
learn
from
him?"
"Nothing."
"Couldn't
he
give
any
clues?"
"None
at
all.
I
thought
he
might
know
who
did
it
and
was
protecting
them,
but
now
I
believe
he's
as
confused
as
everyone
else.
He's
not
very
quick-witted,
though
he
seems
decent."
