busy
with
work
all
day
and
returned
to
Baker
Street
late
in
the
evening.
Sherlock
Holmes
wasn't
back
yet.
It
was
nearly
ten
o'clock
when
he
came
in,
looking
pale
and
tired.
He
went
to
the
sideboard,
tore
a
piece
from
the
loaf,
and
ate
it
hungrily,
washing
it
down
with
water.
"You're
hungry,"
I
said.
"Starving.
I
forgot
to
eat.
I
haven't
had
anything
since
breakfast."
"Nothing?"
"Not
a
bite.
I
didn't
have
time."
"And
how
did
you
do?"
"Well."
"Do
you
have
a
clue?"
