Las aventuras de Sherlock Holmes
The Adventure of the Noble Bachelor
Capítulo 10, Página 23
"I've
wasted
enough
time,"
said
Lestrade,
rising.
"I
believe
in
hard
work,
not
in
sitting
by
the
fire
spinning
theories.
Good
day,
Mr.
Holmes,
and
we'll
see
who
solves
the
matter
first."
He
gathered
the
garments,
stuffed
them
into
the
bag,
and
headed
for
the
door.
"Just
one
hint,
Lestrade,"
drawled
Holmes
before
his
rival
left;
"I'll
tell
you
the
true
solution.
Lady
St.
Simon
is
a
myth.
There
isn't,
and
never
has
been,
any
such
person."
Lestrade
looked
sadly
at
my
companion.
Then
he
turned
to
me,
tapped
his
forehead
three
times,
shook
his
head
solemnly,
and
hurried
away.
He
had
barely
closed
the
door
when
Holmes
rose
to
put
on
his
overcoat.
"There's
something
to
what
he
says
about
outdoor
work,"
he
remarked,
"so
I
think,
Watson,
I'll
leave
you
to
your
papers
for
a
bit."
It
was
after
five
o'clock
when
Sherlock
Holmes
left
me,
but
I
had
no
time
to
feel
lonely.
Within
an
hour,
a
confectioner’s
man
arrived
with
a
large
flat
box.
With
the
help
of
a
young
man,
he
unpacked
it,
and
to
my
great
surprise,
a
luxurious
cold
supper
was
laid
out
on
our
humble
table.
There
were
cold
woodcock,
a
pheasant,
a
pâté
de
foie
gras
pie,
and
some
ancient
and
cobwebby
bottles.
After
setting
up
these
delights,
my
two
visitors
vanished,
like
the
genii
of
the
Arabian
Nights,
with
no
explanation
except
that
everything
was
paid
for
and
ordered
to
this
address.
Just
before
nine
o'clock,
Sherlock
Holmes
entered
the
room
briskly.
His
face
was
serious,
but
there
was
a
light
in
his
eye
suggesting
he
hadn't
been
disappointed
in
his
conclusions.
"They've
laid
the
supper,
then,"
he
said,
rubbing
his
hands.
"You
seem
to
expect
company.
They've
set
places
for
five."
