Las aventuras de Sherlock Holmes
The Adventure of the Beryl Coronet
Capítulo 11, Página 9
"Now
I
come
to
a
part
of
my
story
where
I
want
to
be
particularly
precise.
I'm
not
a
heavy
sleeper,
and
my
anxiety
probably
made
me
sleep
even
less.
Around
two
in
the
morning,
I
was
woken
by
a
noise
in
the
house.
It
stopped
before
I
was
fully
awake,
but
it
felt
like
a
window
had
quietly
closed
somewhere.
I
lay
there
listening
intently.
Suddenly,
to
my
horror,
I
heard
footsteps
softly
moving
in
the
next
room.
I
slipped
out
of
bed,
trembling
with
fear,
and
peered
around
the
corner
of
my
dressing-room
door."
"'Arthur!'
I
screamed,
'you
villain!
You
thief!
How
dare
you
touch
that
coronet?'"
"The
gaslight
was
dim,
as
I
had
left
it,
and
my
unfortunate
son,
dressed
only
in
his
shirt
and
trousers,
was
standing
by
the
light,
holding
the
coronet
in
his
hands.
He
seemed
to
be
twisting
it
with
all
his
strength.
When
I
cried
out,
he
dropped
it
and
turned
as
pale
as
death.
I
grabbed
it
and
examined
it.
One
of
the
gold
corners,
with
three
beryls,
was
missing."
"'You
scoundrel!'
I
shouted,
overwhelmed
with
rage.
'You've
ruined
it!
You've
disgraced
me
forever!
Where
are
the
jewels
you
stole?'"
"'Stolen!'
he
exclaimed."
"'Yes,
thief!'
I
yelled,
shaking
him
by
the
shoulder."
"'None
are
missing.
There
can't
be
any
missing,'
he
said."
"'Three
are
missing.
And
you
know
where
they
are.
Must
I
call
you
a
liar
too?
Didn’t
I
see
you
trying
to
tear
off
another
piece?'"
