Las aventuras de Sherlock Holmes
The Adventure of the Copper Beeches
Capítulo 12, Página 3
"It
could
be
more
interesting
than
you
think.
Remember
the
case
of
the
blue
carbuncle,
which
seemed
minor
at
first
but
turned
into
a
serious
investigation.
This
might
be
similar."
"Well,
let's
hope
so.
But
our
questions
will
soon
be
answered,
for
here,
unless
I'm
mistaken,
is
the
person
in
question."
As
he
spoke,
the
door
opened,
and
a
young
lady
entered
the
room.
She
was
plainly
but
neatly
dressed,
with
a
bright,
quick
face,
freckled
like
a
plover's
egg,
and
had
the
brisk
manner
of
a
woman
who
has
had
to
make
her
own
way
in
the
world.
"I'm
sure
you'll
excuse
my
bothering
you,"
she
said
as
my
companion
rose
to
greet
her,
"but
I've
had
a
very
strange
experience,
and
as
I
have
no
parents
or
relatives
to
ask
for
advice,
I
thought
you
might
be
kind
enough
to
tell
me
what
I
should
do."
"Please
take
a
seat,
Miss
Hunter.
I'll
be
happy
to
do
anything
I
can
to
help
you."
I
could
see
that
Holmes
was
favorably
impressed
by
the
manner
and
speech
of
his
new
client.
He
looked
her
over
in
his
usual
thorough
way
and
then
settled
himself,
with
his
eyes
half-closed
and
his
fingertips
together,
to
listen
to
her
story.
"I've
been
a
governess
for
five
years,"
she
said,
"in
Colonel
Spence
Munro's
family,
but
two
months
ago,
the
Colonel
got
a
position
in
Halifax,
Nova
Scotia,
and
took
his
children
to
America,
so
I
found
myself
without
a
job.
I
advertised
and
answered
ads,
but
with
no
success.
Eventually,
the
little
money
I'd
saved
began
to
run
out,
and
I
was
at
my
wit's
end
about
what
to
do."
"There's
a
well-known
agency
for
governesses
in
the
West
End
called
Westaway's,
and
I
used
to
visit
once
a
week
to
see
if
there
was
anything
suitable
for
me.
Westaway
was
the
founder's
name,
but
it's
actually
managed
by
Miss
Stoper.
She
sits
in
her
own
little
office,
and
the
ladies
seeking
jobs
wait
in
an
anteroom
and
are
shown
in
one
by
one,
while
she
checks
her
ledgers
to
see
if
she
has
anything
suitable
for
them."
