Las aventuras de Sherlock Holmes
The Red-Headed League
Capítulo 2, Página 5
"Very
good.
Now,
Mr.
Wilson?"
"Well,
it's
just
as
I've
been
telling
you,
Mr.
Sherlock
Holmes,"
said
Jabez
Wilson,
wiping
his
forehead.
"I
run
a
small
pawnbroker's
shop
at
Coburg
Square,
near
the
City.
It's
not
a
big
business,
and
in
recent
years,
it's
barely
provided
me
with
a
living.
I
used
to
have
two
assistants,
but
now
I
can
only
afford
one.
I
would
struggle
to
pay
him
if
he
wasn't
willing
to
work
for
half
wages
to
learn
the
business."
"What
is
the
name
of
this
accommodating
young
man?"
asked
Sherlock
Holmes.
"His
name
is
Vincent
Spaulding,
and
he's
not
exactly
young.
It's
hard
to
guess
his
age.
I
couldn't
wish
for
a
better
assistant,
Mr.
Holmes,
and
I
know
he
could
earn
double
elsewhere.
But
if
he's
content,
why
should
I
give
him
ideas?"
"Why,
indeed?
You
seem
quite
lucky
to
have
an
employee
who
works
for
less
than
the
market
rate.
That's
not
common
these
days.
Your
assistant
might
be
as
remarkable
as
your
advertisement."
"Oh,
he
has
his
faults,"
said
Mr.
Wilson.
"He's
obsessed
with
photography.
Always
snapping
photos
when
he
should
be
learning,
then
disappearing
into
the
cellar
like
a
rabbit
to
develop
them.
That's
his
main
flaw,
but
overall
he's
a
good
worker.
There's
no
vice
in
him."
"He
is
still
with
you,
I
presume?"
"Yes,
sir.
He
and
a
fourteen-year-old
girl
who
does
some
simple
cooking
and
keeps
the
place
tidy—that's
all
I
have
at
home,
as
I'm
a
widower
with
no
family.
We
live
quietly,
sir,
the
three
of
us,
keeping
a
roof
over
our
heads
and
paying
our
debts,
if
nothing
else."
