looked
around
anxiously
in

lamp's
glare,
his

and
eyes
heavy,
as

burdened
by

worry.

he
said,
lifting
his
golden
pince-nez.

I’m

intruding.
I
fear
I’ve
brought
some
of
the
storm
into
your
cozy
room."
"Let
me
take
your
coat
and
umbrella,"
Holmes
offered.
"They
can
dry
here.
You’ve
come
from
the
south-west,
I
see."
"Yes,
from
Horsham."
"That
clay
and
chalk
on
your
shoes
is
quite
distinctive."
