busy
with
my
work
all
day,
and
it
was
late
evening
when
I
returned
to
Baker
Street.
Sherlock
Holmes
hadn't
come
back
yet.
It
was
nearly
ten
o'clock
before
he
entered,
looking
pale
and
exhausted.
He
went
to
the
sideboard,
tore
a
piece
from
the
loaf,
devoured
it
hungrily,
and
washed
it
down
with
a
long
drink
of
water.
"You’re
hungry,"
I
noted.
"Starving.
I
forgot.
I've
eaten
nothing
since
breakfast."
"Nothing?"
"Not
a
bite.
I
had
no
time
to
think
about
it."
"And
how
did
it
go?"
"Well."
"Do
you
have

lead?"
