Las aventuras de Sherlock Holmes
The Adventure of the Speckled Band
Capítulo 8, Página 2
"It's
not
the
cold
that
makes
me
shiver,"
the
woman
said
softly,
moving
her
seat
as
suggested.
"What
is
it,
then?"
"It's
fear,
Mr.
Holmes.
It's
terror."
She
lifted
her
veil
as
she
spoke,
and
we
could
see
she
was
in
a
pitiable
state
of
agitation.
Her
face
was
drawn
and
grey,
her
eyes
restless
and
frightened
like
a
hunted
animal.
She
looked
about
thirty,
but
her
hair
was
streaked
with
premature
grey,
and
her
expression
was
weary
and
haggard.
Holmes
gave
her
one
of
his
quick,
thorough
glances.
"You
mustn't
be
afraid,"
he
said
soothingly,
leaning
forward
and
patting
her
forearm.
"We'll
soon
set
things
right,
I'm
sure.
You
came
by
train
this
morning,
I
see."
"You
know
me,
then?"
"No,
but
I
see
the
second
half
of
a
return
ticket
in
your
left
glove.
You
must
have
started
early,
and
you
had
a
good
drive
in
a
dog-cart
along
heavy
roads
before
reaching
the
station."
The
lady
started
violently
and
stared
at
my
companion
in
bewilderment.
"There's
no
mystery,
madam,"
he
said,
smiling.
"The
left
arm
of
your
jacket
is
spattered
with
mud
in
seven
places.
The
marks
are
fresh.
Only
a
dog-cart
throws
up
mud
like
that,
and
only
when
you
sit
on
the
left
of
the
driver."
