Las aventuras de Sherlock Holmes
The Adventure of the Speckled Band
Capítulo 8, Página 5
"It's
easy
for
me
to
do
so
because
every
event
from
that
dreadful
time
is
burned
into
my
memory.
The
manor-house,
as
I've
mentioned,
is
very
old,
and
only
one
wing
is
occupied
now.
The
bedrooms
in
this
wing
are
on
the
ground
floor,
while
the
sitting
rooms
are
in
the
central
part
of
the
building.
The
first
bedroom
is
Dr.
Roylott's,
the
second
was
my
sister's,
and
the
third
is
mine.
There
is
no
connection
between
them,
but
they
all
open
onto
the
same
corridor.
Am
I
clear?"
"Perfectly
clear."
"The
windows
of
the
three
rooms
open
onto
the
lawn.
On
that
fateful
night,
Dr.
Roylott
went
to
his
room
early,
though
we
knew
he
hadn't
gone
to
bed,
as
my
sister
was
bothered
by
the
smell
of
his
strong
Indian
cigars.
She
left
her
room
and
came
into
mine,
where
she
sat
for
some
time,
talking
about
her
upcoming
wedding.
At
eleven
o'clock,
she
got
up
to
leave
but
paused
at
the
door
and
looked
back."
"'Tell
me,
Helen,'
she
said,
'have
you
ever
heard
anyone
whistle
in
the
dead
of
night?'"
"'Never,'
I
replied."
"'You
couldn't
possibly
whistle
in
your
sleep,
could
you?'"
"'Certainly
not.
But
why
do
you
ask?'"
"'Because
for
the
last
few
nights,
around
three
in
the
morning,
I've
heard
a
low,
clear
whistle.
I'm
a
light
sleeper,
and
it
wakes
me
up.
I
can't
tell
where
it's
coming
from—perhaps
the
next
room
or
the
lawn.
I
thought
I'd
ask
if
you
had
heard
it.'"
