Las aventuras de Sherlock Holmes
The Adventure of the Engineer's Thumb
Capítulo 9, Página 12
"One
horse?"
interrupted
Holmes.
"Yes,
just
one."
"Did
you
notice
its
color?"
"Yes,
I
saw
it
by
the
side-lights
as
I
got
into
the
carriage.
It
was
chestnut."
"Did
it
look
tired
or
fresh?"
"Oh,
it
looked
fresh
and
shiny."
"Thank
you.
Sorry
for
interrupting.
Please
continue
with
your
interesting
account."
"So
off
we
went,
driving
for
at
least
an
hour.
Colonel
Lysander
Stark
had
said
it
was
only
seven
miles,
but
judging
by
our
speed
and
the
time
it
took,
I
thought
it
was
closer
to
twelve.
He
sat
silently
beside
me,
and
I
noticed
him
watching
me
intently
more
than
once.
The
country
roads
were
rough,
and
we
bumped
and
jolted
a
lot.
I
tried
looking
out
the
windows
to
see
where
we
were,
but
they
were
frosted
glass,
and
I
could
only
make
out
the
occasional
blur
of
passing
lights.
I
made
some
attempts
at
conversation
to
break
the
monotony,
but
the
colonel
replied
in
monosyllables,
and
the
chat
soon
died.
Finally,
the
rough
road
was
replaced
by
the
smoothness
of
a
gravel
drive,
and
the
carriage
stopped.
Colonel
Lysander
Stark
jumped
out
and
quickly
pulled
me
into
a
porch
in
front
of
us.
We
stepped
directly
from
the
carriage
into
the
hall,
so
I
didn’t
catch
even
a
glimpse
of
the
house’s
front.
As
soon
as
I
crossed
the
threshold,
the
door
slammed
shut
behind
us,
and
I
faintly
heard
the
carriage
wheels
as
it
drove
away."
