Las aventuras de Tom Sawyer
Capítulo 23, Página 6
Potter’s
lawyer
did
not
ask
questions.
People
were
annoyed.
Did
the
lawyer
want
Potter
to
lose?
More
witnesses
talked
about
Potter
at
the
murder
scene.
They
left
without
questions.
People
talked
about
what
happened
in
the
graveyard.
No
one
asked
questions.
People
were
confused
and
upset.
The
judge
told
them
to
be
quiet.
The
lawyer
for
the
prosecution
said:
"By
the
words
of
honest
people,
we
have
shown
this
crime
is
on
the
prisoner.
We
stop
here."
Potter
groaned
and
put
his
face
in
his
hands.
He
rocked
back
and
forth.
The
courtroom
was
very
quiet.
Many
men
were
moved.
Many
women
cried.
The
lawyer
for
the
defense
stood
up
and
said:
"Your
honor,
we
said
we
would
show
our
client
did
this
because
of
drink.
We
changed
our
mind.
We
will
not
say
that."
[Then
to
the
clerk:]
"Call
Thomas
Sawyer!"
Everyone
looked
surprised,
even
Potter.
All
eyes
were
on
Tom
as
he
stood
up
and
went
to
the
stand.
He
looked
scared.
They
gave
him
the
oath.
"Thomas
Sawyer,
where
were
you
on
June
seventeenth,
at
midnight?"
