Las aventuras de Tom Sawyer
Capítulo 4, Página 3
“All
right!
What
is
it,
Mary,
tell
me
what
it
is.”
“Never
you
mind,
Tom.
If
I
say
it’s
nice,
it
is
nice.”
“You
bet
it
is,
Mary.
All
right,
I’ll
try
again.”
Tom
tried
again.
He
was
curious
and
wanted
the
gift.
He
worked
hard
and
learned
it
well.
Mary
gave
him
a
new
knife.
It
was
worth
twelve
and
a
half
cents.
Tom
was
very
happy.
The
knife
did
not
cut
well,
but
it
was
a
real
Barlow
knife.
Tom
scratched
the
cupboard
with
it.
He
wanted
to
scratch
the
bureau
next,
but
he
had
to
get
ready
for
Sunday-school.
Mary
gave
him
water
and
soap.
Tom
went
outside.
He
put
the
basin
on
a
bench.
He
wet
the
soap
and
put
it
down.
He
poured
the
water
out.
Then
he
went
inside
and
wiped
his
face
with
a
towel.
Mary
took
the
towel
and
said:
“Now
ain’t
you
ashamed,
Tom.
You
mustn’t
be
so
bad.
Water
won’t
hurt
you.”
Tom
felt
a
bit
bad.
The
basin
had
water
again.
He
stood
there,
took
a
big
breath,
and
washed.
He
came
back
with
soap
on
his
face.
He
wiped
it
with
the
towel.
But
he
was
not
clean.
His
face
was
clean
only
at
the
top.
Mary
helped
him.
She
made
him
clean
and
brushed
his
hair.
Then
she
gave
him
his
Sunday
clothes.
He
put
them
on.
Mary
fixed
his
clothes
and
hat.
He
looked
nice
but
was
not
happy.
He
hoped
Mary
forgot
his
shoes,
but
she
didn’t.
She
cleaned
them
and
gave
them
to
him.
He
got
angry
and
said
he
always
did
things
he
didn’t
like.
But
Mary
said:
“Please,
Tom—that’s
a
good
boy.”
