put
his
hand
in
his
pocket.

found
a
box.
He
took
out
a
tick
and
put
it
on
his
desk.
The
tick
moved,
but
Tom
stopped
it
with
a
pin.
Tom's
friend
Joe
Harper
sat
next
to
him.
Joe
was
bored
too.
He
saw
the
tick
and
got
interested.
Joe
and
Tom
were
best
friends.
They
played
together
every
day.
Joe
took
a
pin
from
his
shirt.
He
helped
Tom
with
the
tick.
They
both
watched
the
tick.
Tom
said
they
needed
more
space.
He
drew
a
line
on
Joe's
slate.
"Now,"
Tom
said,
"when
the
tick
is
on
your
side,
you
can
touch
it.
But
if
it
comes
to
my
side,
you
leave
it."
"Okay,"
Joe
said.
"Let's
start."
The
tick
moved
to
Joe's
side.
Joe
played
with
it.
Then
the
tick
went
back
to
Tom's
side.
The
tick
moved
back
and
forth.
Joe
and
Tom
watched
it
closely.
Joe
had
the
tick
for
a
long
time.
Tom
wanted
to
play
too.
He
touched
the
tick
with
his
pin.
Joe
got
angry.
"Tom,
leave
it
alone."
"I
just
want
to
play
a
little,
Joe."
"No,
you
can't.
Leave
it
alone."
