Las aventuras de Tom Sawyer
Capítulo 11, Página 3
Potter
almost
fell,
but
they
caught
him.
He
said:
"Something
told
me
to
come
back
and
get—"
He
shivered
and
waved
his
hand.
"Tell
them,
Joe,
tell
them—it's
no
use
anymore."
Huckleberry
and
Tom
stood
silent,
listening
to
Injun
Joe's
calm
lie.
They
thought
the
sky
would
punish
him,
but
nothing
happened.
They
wanted
to
break
their
promise
and
save
Potter,
but
they
feared
Injun
Joe's
power.
"Why
didn't
you
leave?
Why
come
here?"
someone
asked.
"I
couldn't
help
it,"
Potter
moaned.
"I
wanted
to
run,
but
I
only
came
here."
He
cried
again.
Injun
Joe
repeated
his
lie
at
the
inquest
calmly.
The
boys
saw
no
punishment
came,
so
they
thought
Joe
had
made
a
deal
with
the
devil.
He
became
the
most
interesting
person
they
had
ever
seen,
and
they
couldn't
stop
looking
at
him.
They
decided
to
watch
him
at
night,
hoping
to
see
his
evil
master.
Injun
Joe
helped
lift
the
dead
man
into
a
wagon.
People
whispered
that
the
wound
bled
a
little!
The
boys
hoped
this
would
point
to
the
real
killer,
but
they
were
wrong.
