Las aventuras de Tom Sawyer
Capítulo 18, Página 1
Tom
had
a
big
secret.
He
planned
to
come
back
home
with
his
pirate
friends
and
attend
their
own
funerals.
They
used
a
log
to
cross
the
river
to
Missouri
on
Saturday
evening.
They
landed
a
few
miles
from
the
village.
They
slept
in
the
woods
near
the
town
until
almost
morning.
Then,
they
sneaked
through
back
lanes
and
alleys
and
finished
sleeping
in
the
church
gallery
among
broken
benches.
On
Monday
morning,
Aunt
Polly
and
Mary
were
very
kind
to
Tom.
They
talked
a
lot
at
breakfast.
Aunt
Polly
said:
"Well,
Tom,
it
was
a
funny
joke
to
make
everyone
worry
so
you
boys
could
have
fun.
But
it
was
hard
to
let
me
suffer.
If
you
could
come
on
a
log
to
your
funeral,
you
could
have
told
me
you
weren't
dead,
just
ran
away."
"Yes,
you
could
have
done
that,
Tom,"
said
Mary.
"I
think
you
would
have
if
you
thought
of
it."
"Would
you,
Tom?"
asked
Aunt
Polly,
hopefully.
"Say,
would
you,
if
you'd
thought
of
it?"
"I—well,
I
don't
know.
It
would
have
ruined
everything."
"Tom,
I
hoped
you
loved
me
that
much,"
said
Aunt
Polly,
sadly.
Her
words
made
Tom
uncomfortable.
"It
would
have
been
nice
if
you
cared
enough
to
think
of
it,
even
if
you
didn't
do
it."
"Now,
auntie,
it's
not
so
bad,"
Mary
said.
"It's
just
Tom's
silly
way.
He
is
always
in
a
hurry
and
never
thinks
of
anything."
